Welcome to the EBOT Examination
The exam of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EBOT) has been running for the 7th year and has gained wide recognition and acceptance throughout the scientific community in Europe.
Despite being a well recognised qualification in a large number of European countries, changes need to be introduced in order to widen the scope of the exam. As you may remember one of the main objectives of the exam was to help to improve the standards of orthopaedic training around Europe taking into account that we all have very similar training programmes but conditions under which these training programmes are run do vary widely around Europe from north to south, from east to west. The European Union is getting larger with 27 member countries at present where facilities for exchange/free movement of orthopaedic surgeons exist and therefore the purpose of such an examination has been reinforced.
2008 will probably be the last year where this format of examination will be used. The EBOT Examining committee is now working on new regulations and rules to be applied from next year onwards which will contribute to have a modern examination with the technology of 21st century!!
As you may have notice the EBOT Examination has now gained the recognition and the support of European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) and it is likely these links will get stronger in the future, reinforcing on one hand the reputation of this prestigious European qualification but on the other, the important role of the EFORT across Europe.
If you fulfil the requirements for application to become a fellow of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (FEBOT) we encourage you to apply and we welcome you to next fellowship examination which will take place in Geneva – Switzerland on the 4th and 5th of October 2008.
