The oral examination consists of five sessions of 30 minutes
each. Each oral session will be based on the following subjects
(candidates will rotate through the five stations):
- Adult orthopaedic and trauma surgery – Upper Limb
- Adult orthopaedic and trauma surgery – Lower Limb
- Adult orthopaedic and trauma surgery – Spine
- Children's orthopaedic and trauma surgery – Paediatrics
- Basic sciences related to orthopaedics, including
biomechanics, statistics, audit methodology and
outcome-based medicine
The Oral exam will take place on September 19 and 20, 2026.
Who Can Sit the Oral Exam?
- European citizens who have passed Part I – Written Exam
(either on the previous campaign or the current campaign)
- Non-European citizens working in a European country who have
passed Part I – Written Exam (either on the previous
campaign or the current campaign)
- European citizens or non-European citizens working in a
European country who sat the Oral Exam on the previous
campaign and need to resit it

Candidates Who Successfully Passed Part I – Written Exam
An email will be sent to the candidate’s inbox with three pieces
of information:
- A congratulatory note on their passing the Written Exam
- Their Certificate of Basic Knowledge
- Instructions on how to apply to the Oral Exam

Candidates Who Are Resitting Part 2 – Oral Exam
An email will be sent to the candidate’s inbox with information
on how to apply again to the Oral Exam. Please follow
instructions for when and how to register.
Withdrawing from the Examination
Candidates withdrawing from the oral part of the examination
must do so in writing to the EBOT Administrator at
ebotexam@efort.org.

The full entrance fee may be returned or transferred to a
future examination when written notice is received prior to
the closing date for receipt of applications/payment.

Half of the entrance fee may be returned or transferred to a
future examination when written notice is received not less
than 31 working days before the commencement of the
examination.

Within 30 working days of the examination, no refund of the
fee will be made to candidates who withdraw or fail to
attend, except in the most exceptional circumstances and at
the discretion of the Board.
